Nick Drabble from Dynamic Infrastructures Answers Questions
Nick Drabble from Dynamic Infrastructures answers questions about cloud computing issues. What different types of cloud computing services are available? There are basically five levels of service in a cloud computing environment, at the base level you have what is called infrastructure services so maybe you want some server capacity or I want some storage at the next level you have what are called platform based servers, so that server and storage might have a data base and an application development environment warped around it, so you can start to do things like application development using someone else’s infrastructure at the next level you have what are called application services things like salesforce.com where you can have an application hosted for you in an environment that is not on your won infrastructure. At the fourth level you’ve got business services so for example many organisations today outsource their payroll, why? Because it takes up large amount of their resources one day a month and then it does nothing. It may well be that an organisation says, well HR is not really core to my business I want to put all of that to a specialist HR provider and that might be in a cloud environment so that’s a business level of service and then at the top the fifth level of service is around social and personal clouds so that’s things like Facebook and twitter and these are increasingly becoming part of the fabric of a business environment.
